Life is hard. Life is harder when you are an entrepreneur and it only gets harder from that point on. As you go along your entrepreneurship journey, there are moments when you feel discouraged, you start wondering if there is a point to what you are doing what you are doing in the first place. At times like this, you need a little bit of encouragement, a reminder as to what is important to you. And when you feel like giving up, the first and foremost step that you should take is NOT give up and ask yourself the following questions.
- Why did I start this?
Go back to the reason behind all this. Why did you start this? What made you go on this journey in the first place? Maybe you need a reminder of how excited you got when the business was first formed, how happy it made you when you achieved something. Sometimes, all we need is a reminder and a good look at yourself in order to go on.
- Remember, nothing goes right all the time.
It is not humanely possible to be 100% right all the time. All the successful business personalities out there aren’t where they are today because they got everything right at the first go. They are there because they failed and tried again so many times until they succeeded. Your business may not be making the profits that you envisaged it to make, your customers may not be happy about your product and may need refunds or you may come across hurdles that you didn’t think that you will. The important thing to remember is that whatever obstacles you may come across, there is always a way to go around it. And every obstacle, every criticism that you get is another way of improving your product and it is one step closer to perfection for your business idea. Being uncomfortable is okay. So don’t be disheartened. Embrace the way of the world and learn to deal with things as and when they arrive.
If there is anything that will get you through difficult times, that would be persistence. Only you can decide whether you succeed or not and without persistence you cannot achieve anything in your life. Understanding how your business works, analyzing your situation and believing in your business idea is how you follow your dream with persistence.
- Focus on output
Ignore what is putting you down. Instead, focus on what you can achieve through your business. What can I create today to make my situation better? What can I do today to help improve my business? You need you understand that you need to keep yourself productive and constantly working towards your goals instead of wallowing in self-pity.
Focusing of output instead of dwelling on obstacles also gives you the opportunity to take a step forward towards your goals. The physical exertion is bound to get yourself out of that emotional rut you have dug yourself into and solider on through the dark times regardless of what lies in your path.
- Be happy
As much as it is important to keep working, it is okay once in a while to take a break and do what makes you happy. Go dancing every once in a while, instead of just lying around, do something the physically stimulates you. Think about the last time that you were happy. Go out and just do it!
- Remember, you are not the only one
The next time you start feeling blue, know this – you are not the only one. Thousands of entrepreneurs have been where you’ve been – or worse! There are thousands more who are going through the same thing even now. Your lack of confidence may make you think that you are incompetent, but in reality, this is not the case. Fear often paints a picture in your mind that is not real and this is what is holding you back. At such times remember – fear is a liar and you shouldn’t fall for its tricks.
